Di’s is a 2016 Readers’ Choice Gold winner for its breakfasts, a Silver winner as a family-owned establishment and a Bronze winner for its steak dinners. Di’s has gone from seven employees to 25 since its inception, and Elias said nearly everyone who began when the business was opened is still with the her. “We’ve grown so much. It’s a lot of work, and I’m here every day,” Elias said. The diner’s previous hours from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. have been expanded to 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. “Personally, I think we do pretty good. Some nights, we’re still serving right up until the end, and we’re here even later,” she said.
Eleven years and growing for Di’s Kornerstone Diner in the Olympia Shopping Center at the McKeesport-Versailles border. Owner Diane Elias wants everyone to know they’re always welcome at Di’s, where “everything we serve is homemade. “There’s no lunch meat. Real turkey. Real corned beef. It’s all real food,” she said. “We always go the extra mile.” At Di’s, Elias said “everybody knows everybody. Everybody’s friendly. It’s a very nice crowd here.” More than two years after moving from its previous location on Fifth Avenue in McKeesport, where a Speedway convenience store currently operates, Di’s is thriving at the former Burger King site in the Olympia Shopping Center on Long Run Road.
